Revolution

USER EXPERIENCE, USER INTERFACE, PROTOTYPE, PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Revolution is an application that handles all per diem requests and court appearances behind this Law Firm in New York.

Brief and idea.

When this Law Firm contacted me they pitched their idea as in “an Uber for lawyers” basically they work with other Law Firms that don’t have more availability of lawyers to attend court cases and they pair them with per diems they have on demand to attend this cases for them.

I worked with them understanding their business, idea and needs to automate. Before this application was developed they were handling all this paperwork and doing all Per Diem matched by hand. This took incredibly amount of time and was a cap in their attempt to expand to other states.

The application basically handles three types of users: Clients, Admins and Per Diems.

For the purpose of this case study we will only cover the Admin flows.

Admins needed to be able to receive a case request and assign in to a Per Diem. They also needed to be able to confirm Per Diem’s availability, handle all communications between Client and Per Diem, and make sure Per Diem had all necessary documentation. After Per Diem attended the Appearance they also needed to be able to write a report and either close the case or reschedule for the next appearance.

USER INTERFACE DESIGN.

This law firm already had a logo and brand. We used their logo colors and main website font for brand consistency.

The typography we used was Montserrat in different weights.

The blue and grey shades are used across the app which gives it sobriety, formality, the data and communications are also easy to read.

As far as layout we went with a flat design and clean dashboards in order to handle large quantities of data.

PROTOTYPE. IMPLEMENTATION.

On the technical side this is a Ruby on Rails application. It connects with the APIs of Stripe for payments, Freshbooks for Invoicing and Google Calendar for calendar management.

The prototype was created was using Sketch and Invision. This allowed me to collaborate super well with the client and the development team.

For this project responsiveness was not a priority. The team uses big monitors, so the app needed to work well in big desktop monitors. Per Diems would accept or reject the case request through their email client.
